What were Sophie’s wishes?

Sophie wanted the following changed around the country:

Play specialist 7 days a week in hospitals.

Improvements to children’s food

Increase in childhood cancer funding.

Parents to be fed when staying overnight with their child

Training for health professionals on childhood cancer

Do we just support children with cancer?

No, although Sophie died from cancer we support every family admitted to hospital with their child no matter what has brought them into hospital. Sophie wanted every parent and child to be looked after no matter what was wrong with them.

How to sponsor a pizza night?

The cost to sponsor a Sophie’s Saturday Supper pizza night is £240 for the main children’s wards in Portsmouth. It costs £60 to cover the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Portsmouth hospital. Payments can be made to our charity bank account and once payment has been received, we will send you a message to confirm receipt and let you know what date it is booked in for.

What does my donation get spent on?

We receive referrals from doctors or nurses at the hospital for families in real difficulty (often financial) which has been made worse because they have a child in hospital. We fund transport costs (fuel vouchers, bus or train passes or taxis), meal vouchers at the hospital, birthday parties for children or the parent whilst in hospital, clothes, Costa vouchers, funding the art therapist who works weekly at the hospital, parent packs that we provide etc. We also need to buy extra supplies

of food and drink when stocks run low. Your donation will go to one of these things. Without funding we cannot provide this support and families would struggle whilst their child is in hospital.

How can I keep up to date with the work you’re doing?

If you follow our social media pages we tend to share a lot of what we are doing. We also have a newsletter you are welcome to sign up to.
