On 28 October 2023, Sophie’s Halloween 10k run took place and the event was nothing short of spectacular, despite the challenging weather conditions. It was heartwarming to witness the diverse stories shared by the participants, from those overcoming obstacles following a stroke to others pushing their limits in walking or running such a distance after a prolonged period. The creativity and effort put into the various costumes was truly remarkable, showcasing the enthusiastic spirit of all the attendees. Sophie always said that she would let us know that she was watching over us by making rainbows, and so the appearance of rainbows during the event added an extra touch of magic to the day.
This was the third 10k event run in honour of Sophie and our heartfelt gratitude goes out to Debbie and Tina, the masterminds behind the concept of Sophie's 10k, which was initiated back in 2020 during Sophie's diagnosis and has now become an annual fixture in the Sophie’s Legacy diary going from strength to strength.
Events of this scale demand meticulous planning and preparation and the extensive planning process began as early as January this year. It is all thanks to the dedication and commitment of our small but dedicated team that we have been able to pull off such an enjoyable and successful event.
A special mention goes to our team of committed and enthusiastic volunteers who selflessly gave up their time to run stalls and contributed to the smooth execution of the event. Their unwavering support and hard work are the backbone of the success we achieved. We were honoured to have the Mayor and Mayoress of Fareham in attendance and are grateful to them for supporting out cause and helping by handing out maps. Additionally, the performances by the Sing Now Choir and the energetic Halloween disco hosted by Tina added an extra layer of excitement and entertainment, making the day even more memorable.
We extend our sincere appreciation to OH Balloons for their stunning balloon display, Wright Choice Catering for serving delicious bacon rolls and generously contributing their profits to our charity, and Glitz n Glow for adding a touch of sparkle to everyone's faces. The massages provided by Bodiworks were a delightful treat, and the delicious cakes from Sweets Boutique Lee were an absolute delight for everyone in attendance.
As you may be aware, Sophie designed the medals for this event and we are so grateful to Wheelers for their exceptional craftsmanship that enabled Sophie’s design to be brought to life complete with a surprise special message. Don't forget to check your medal for a hidden rainbow!
Mosty of all, we are immensely thankful to everyone who participated in the event. Sophie’s cause has captured the hearts of so many and we had participants from across the UK, including as far north as Orkney!! Your unwavering support has already helped us raise over £6500, and we are confident that this contribution will make a meaningful difference to the lives of families in hospitals.
Looking ahead, we eagerly anticipate the unveiling of Sophie's final design of Christmas medals in December 2024. Thank you for your continued support and stay tuned for more updates on our ongoing efforts. For those who are still interested, you can purchase a medal by clicking here.
