April 2024 stands as a momentous month in the Sophie’s Legacy calendar, with over fifty dedicated runners proudly sporting our vibrant yellow shirts and taking to the streets to represent Sophie's Legacy in both the APB Southampton and London Marathons. Their collective efforts generated over an astounding £17,000 raised in support of our cherished charity.
On 07 April 2024, the annual ABP Marathon took place in Southampton, drawing over 5,000 participants of varying abilities. From the arduous full marathon to the lively 5K run, runners embarked on a journey through Southampton's iconic landmarks, including the Southampton Guildhall, the Bargate, and the historic Old Town. Sophie's Legacy were delighted to see an army of forty five runners across various distances, showcasing their unwavering commitment and raising in excess of £10,000—an extraordinary achievement.
Throughout the event, Sophie's Legacy's devoted volunteers manned our marquee, providing essential refreshments and moral support to our tireless runners. Additionally, our participants were treated to rejuvenating massages courtesy of the skilled therapists from Bodiworks.
On April 21st, 2024, the prestigious London Marathon took place, with approximately 50,000 runners tackling the 26.2-mile course through London's heart. Passing by renowned landmarks such as Tower Bridge, the Tower of London, Buckingham Palace, and the River Thames, the London Marathon is a world-class sporting event featuring top athletes vying for victory, alongside thousands of recreational runners raising funds for charitable causes. Sophie’s Legacy is thrilled to celebrate the achievement of our seven runners who conquered the challenging course, raising over £7,000; a remarkable feat.
